Over the counter kits have a standard size mouth piece and are not customised to fit the individual. This means that if an effective strength of whitening gel is used there is a very real risk that the gums will get damaged because it is impossible to stop the gel coming into contact with the soft tissue without a customised tray made from impressions of the teeth. Many over the counter kits contain gel that is very weak and so whilst they won't do any harm they also won't work effectively.

Most people with no dental problems can use Pearlys safely. As with any effective treatment there are some who should avoid its use:

It is possible during treatment that white spots will look more prominent for a while but after 4-7 days following treatment they settle down again. With continued treatment the rest of the tooth will “catch up” and although the white spots may not completely disappear they will be less noticeable.

No adverse effects to tooth enamel have been shown in studies of professional teeth whitening. Whitening gel has been used by dentists for years and are proven to cause no damage to the enamel.

This depends on your lifestyle. Most clients’ teeth are noticeably whiter for 18-24 months but with regular retouches every few months there is no need to ever have discoloured teeth again.

The shelf life of Pearlys Gel is 2 years if kept cool and dark (ideally in the fridge).
